Weekly - 2026 CW 13 (Wed 2026-03-25)
Accomplishments
🎯 MAJOR MILESTONE: Taskwarrior → Plane Migration Complete (March 19)
Full task management infrastructure overhaul.
- Split got dedicated Plane account + API key
- Migrated all 57 Taskwarrior tasks to Plane:
- 40 to Thesis project (9 proposal tasks, 25 reading list, 6 zettelkasten)
- 14 to Danespace (finances, poker, website, infra, fantasy football)
- Created cycle: "Week of Mar 19 — Revisions Sprint" (3/19-3/25)
- Created 4 modules in Thesis: Proposal V1, Code Implementation, Defense Prep, Literature & Background
- Taskwarrior officially retired — Plane is source of truth
- Heartbeat checks now poll Plane for daily changes
🎙️ MAJOR MILESTONE: Voice Calling Working (March 19)
Epic debugging session — 2-way voice calls fully operational.
- Switched from Telnyx to Twilio after media streaming issues
- New number: +17244122385 (724 AND 412!)
- Full pipeline: Phone → Twilio Media Stream → WebSocket → OpenAI Realtime STT → Opus response → ElevenLabs TTS
- Inbound calls work perfectly ✅
- First real conversation: Dane roasted the voice ("you sound like a fucking serial killer") — fair
- Voice upgrade: Chris (iP95p4xoKVk53GoZ742B) "Charming, Down-to-Earth" — works on iMessage AND phone
- Discovered iMessage voice notes were using Edge TTS fallback (Microsoft), not ElevenLabs — fixed
- Full transcripts logged to
~/.openclaw/voice-calls/calls.jsonl - Architecture: separate agent session, runs on Opus 4.6 + Haiku for speed
- Known issue: outbound calls disconnect after intro (tabled for later)
Research Infrastructure
FRET Installation + First Spec (March 19-20):
- FRET installed and working (took significant time)
- Started first specification for point kinetics preliminary example
- Discussed spec structure: component vs variable separation (ReactorController as type, control_mode as trait)
- Dane drew Rust analogy — clicked for him
- Example spec:
when T_min > 700 ReactorController shall at the next timepoint satisfy control_mode = heatup
DICE Conference Acceptance (March 20):
- Accepted to DICE 2026 (Digital Engineering Conference at University of Utah)
- May 12-13, 2026 (Tue-Wed), S.J. Quinney College of Law, Salt Lake City
- INL-led conference on digital engineering, digital twins, AI for nuclear/energy
- Dane needs to prep a 20-minute breakout presentation
- Planning extra day to visit Great Salt Lake area
People Directory (March 20):
- Created
people/*.mddirectory for contact/relationship tracking - Jackie entry started (RPM Club co-founder, pickleball/motorcycle buddy — "complicated")
- David Pabst added (neighboring lab PhD, pickleball/motorcycle/clay shooting companion)
Website & Professional
HTML CV (March 24):
- Built HTML version of Dane's CV as Hugo content page (
content/cv.md) - Matches dark night sky theme, responsive
- Updated nav in hugo.toml to
/cv/(PDF still available at/cv.pdf) - Not deployed yet — awaiting Dane's approval
CV Updates (March 23):
- Added King's Eunuch (Rust poker engine) and Z31 LS swap to Projects section
- Moved Panther Racing from Projects to Professional Experience
- Sent to Ed Long (Emerson boss) for summer internship onboarding
Personal / Life
Poker Session (March 21):
- Played poker remotely via iMessage with Dane, Krzys, and friends ($10 buy-in, 5c increments)
- Got dealt in: A♣ J♠ UTG, raised 25c pre
- Lost with ace high to Krzys's pair of jacks
- Played it half-hearted — should have folded flop or committed to real bluff line
- Fun experiment: "state of the art with LLMs" at poker
LS Swap Progress (March 22):
- Big garage day: rear main seal installed, flywheel torqued, timing chain + components done
- Harbor Freight haul: Quinn 3/8" flex-head digital torque wrench + 1/2" digital torque adapter
- Central Machinery portable abrasive blaster kit (upgrading from undersized 18oz)
- Still needs: torque-to-yield camshaft bolt, then front cover + oil pan → ready for paint
- Internal assembly nearly complete
RPM Club (March 23):
- Drinks with Jackie and Alyssa (Jackie's friend)
- They're starting Racing, Performance and Maintenance Club at Pitt (RPM Club)
- Car/motorsports focused
Union Captain Email (March 23):
- Drafted outreach email as grad student union captain for Pitt Graduate Workers Union
- Final version: friendly, low-pressure intro + recent bargaining wins + invite to chat
- Subject: "Just saying hello!" (ambiguous for open rate maximization)
Server Networking Issues (March 23-24):
- Gitea web UI not exposed via Caddy (SSH works fine)
- Tailscale broken on saboserver
- Low priority — table for later
Weather & Riding
- March 20: First real spring day (32°F dawn → 74°F high), below 40°F threshold at dawn
- March 22: 55°F clear morning, 77°F high — excellent riding weather before evening thunderstorms
- March 24: 17°F clear dawn (too cold), warming to 51°F afternoon — marginal for return trip
- March 25: 37°F partly cloudy, high 70°F sunny — great motorcycle day. Tomorrow: thunderstorms + heavy rain 100%
Pushed or Rescheduled
Preliminary Example Work: Still pending — formal requirements (#17) In Progress, automaton (#18) and synthesis (#19) still Todo. Deferred while waiting for Dan's feedback on V1.
Thesis Revisions:
- All revision tasks (#20-25) marked Done in Plane as of March 19
- Research Statement, State of Art, Research Approach revisions all high priority
- Calendar blocks scheduled but work appears complete
Email:
- Dan Cole's Proposal Draft email from March 17 still flagged unread
- Himalaya broken on all accounts (3/24) — silent failure, needs investigation
To Do
Immediate Priority (This Week):
- Continue waiting for Dan's feedback on V1 — downstream work unlocks on his response
- FRET spec work — continue building preliminary example specifications
- DICE presentation prep planning (May 12-13 approaching)
Upcoming:
- Therapy Tuesday 3 PM
- Supercross Rd 11 Detroit Saturday 8 PM
- Palm Sunday (March 29)
Context:
- Week of solid infrastructure work — Plane migration, voice calling, FRET installation all major wins
- Social week: poker session, drinks with Jackie/Alyssa, union outreach
- Good riding weather mid-week before storms return
- Iran conflict Day ~27: Major escalation — Iran fired missiles at Tel Aviv AND US bases in Kuwait/Jordan/Bahrain. 13 US soldiers killed total. Trump approval dropping.
Notes:
- Plane integration is a game-changer — direct task access + agent integration
- Voice calling infrastructure battle was worth it — real-time conversations work
- FRET mental model clicked via Rust analogy (component = type, response = trait)
- CV HTML version ready pending Dane's deployment approval
- LS swap nearing completion — just cam bolt + front cover + oil pan → primer ready
